Conversation of Waves

This image shows a digital section through the eye of a 3-day old zebrafish to study support cells, called Müller glia. The colour combination highlights that the cells closely interact and are spatially arranged to do so. The structure of these cells shows the intricate layering of the eye, which is necessary for these cells to interact with other cells in the eye, ultimately relaying what we see from the outside world into our brain.

Technique: The image was acquired with the Zeiss LSM 900 AiryScan microscope, using a 40x water-immersion LD C-Apochromat (NA 1.1) objective. Processing was conducted using Zeiss ZenBlack and Fiji. Data from double-transgenics (i.e. with two different cell types being marked) were reduced to a maximum intensity projection and false-colours applied.
